We gather lithium
from around the world
—for the future.
Lithium is a vital resource that powers modern life—driving electric vehicles, smartphones, and energy storage.
As demand rapidly increases, global supply may fall short by 2040, putting essential infrastructure at risk.
To safeguard both our current lives and future generations,
we strive to build a sustainable future through efficient lithium extraction and stable supply.
Vision
The future We Aim For
Solving energy issues through lithium circulation.

We are developing innovative technologies that enable the circular use of lithium—an essential resource for electric vehicles and next-generation power generation—ensuring nothing goes to waste.
From Japan to the world,
through this sustainable lithium supply technology, we aim to create a society that is gentle on both the planet and its people.

Mission
Our Role to Play
Collecting the world’s scattered lithium.
With our groundbreaking technology, we enable low-impact lithium extraction — even from previously untapped sources rich in impurities that have been difficult to process using conventional methods.
By maximizing the utility of limited resources, we aim to strengthen the world’s energy infrastructure and help address global-scale challenges.

What is LiSMIC?
LiSMIC is a proprietary lithium extraction technology, known as the Li Separation Method by Ionic Conductor. Developed at Japan’s National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST), its engineered ionic conductor membrane allows only lithium ions to pass, enabling ultra-high-purity extraction even from impurity-rich sources like salt lakes.

He earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Keio University. In 2008, he received the Best Paper Award at the MicroOptics Conference, an international academic event. He later founded the Kyoto University-based materials venture, TM Factory Inc., where he successfully established a factory before stepping down. In 2017, he was awarded the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award at the University Venture Award. He has served as the CEO, COO, and CSO of a total of seven ventures, successfully raising approximately 2 billion yen in funds.
Director
Masahiro Yamaji

After joining Toyota Tsusho Corporation, he was seconded to Toyota Motor Corporation, where he launched new businesses in functional materials and invested in material ventures. In 2012, he joined the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ), where he established the Materials & Chemicals team and later joined UMI in 2016. Since April 2023, he has served as the Program Director for the Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) Phase 3 under CSTI. In April 2025, he will become a Visiting Professor at Nagoya University. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Waseda University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
